What Successful Therapy Looks Like

Hi Awesome Human!
I'll start by saying counseling or therapy is not a linear process. It is up and down, all over the place, and at times, just plain difficult.
How do you know if therapy is working?
Things to look for include:
Improved well-being: You notice you are able to handle things in a healthier way. While you may still be triggered, your responses are healthier.
Achieved goals: Goals established at the beginning of therapy have been accomplished, allowing space for new goals or closing out therapy (also known as "termination").
You've developed coping skills: You are able to use the coping skills you learn in therapy and deploy them on your own.
You feel empowered: You feel empowered to continue your personal growth and navigate life's challenges on your own.
Keep in mind that therapy is not easy. GROWTH requires WORK.
If you are unsure if therapy is working for you, I recommend talking to your therapist. My hope is that you feel comfortable enough to check in with your therapist in that way.
Remember that everyone's therapy journey is different. Do not compare your therapeutic experience to another's. Good therapy comes when treatment is tailored to your needs and meets you where you are, without judgment.
Please take care.
